This week's feature on an individual or group working to improve the community comes courtesy of Cityside member and resident rowing savant, David Alviar. Please read the snippet below for more information about the work that the Buffalo Bayou Rowing Center is doing for Houston, and how you can help out!
"Buffalo Bayou Rowing Center (BBRC) brings Olympic-style rowing to the youth of downtown Houston, on the east end of Buffalo Bayou. Our mission is to provide a community center, focused on rowing and the life-lessons learned in one of the oldest competitive sports. Our plans include an architecturally significant building to house our equipment and train our high-school and middle-school aged rowers while supporting an adult program. Additionally, we will be capable of hosting meeting and event space for leadership development courses for local businesses and host community events such as yoga and other educational classes. BBRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
To help make our goal a reality, our organization is a selected charity for the entire month of September at Okra Charity Saloon. Every item order is one ticket to vote for BBRC. We'd love to have your support at our event this month on September 26—BBRC Happy Hour event from 4p-8pm at Okra Charity Saloon in downtown."
