Tell Us About Yourself: (Name, Age, Career, Hometown, Family, Hobbies, Interesting Facts etc.)

My name is Allison Harter (most people call me Allie) and I am 33 years old. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio... A Buckeye at heart always! But, I was mostly raised in League City, Texas. On 12/19/15, I married my best friend, Diana.  It was an absolutely beautiful day. We live in a little bungalow near the Medical Center with our two dogs, Destiny and Kaiya, and our newest addition. On 2/24/18, we were blessed with our son, Eli James (also known as “EJ”). I am a licensed clinical social worker and work as a Therapist with Baylor College of Medicine. I am so fortunate to be able to work part-time so I can also be a part-time stay-at-home Mommy.  I love my job though! Hobbies? Who has time for that with an 8-week old baby; but, I do love jigsaw puzzles, traveling, cooking, and enjoying a nice glass of red wine and/or cup of good coffee.

How Long Have you Been a Member at Cityside?

I have been a member at Cityside for the past 3 years.  I had never done Crossfit before joining Cityside and I distinctly remember crying in my car in the parking lot before my first day of Foundations with Leila.  Needless to say, I was absolutely terrified!

What Made You Start CrossFit?

The short answer: Diana loved it and thought it would be great if it was something we could do together.  Oh, the things we do for love!

What Do You Enjoy Most About Cityside?

The constant challenge to step outside my comfort zone and get both physically and mentally stronger.  I appreciate how the coaches support and encourage (and, modify things) to help me be successful in my fitness journey. And, we have made some really great friends at the gym.

What Goals/Accomplishments Have You Achieved Since Joining?

It took me almost two years to be able to Snatch 55 pounds and to me, that was HUGE.  In 2012, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis so my hands and wrists don’t always want to cooperate and work... Being able to come to Crossfit and constantly prove to myself and my doctors that I can do things and get stronger despite my disease feels like an accomplishment every single day.  Also... I am currently doing the Running and Endurance class, talk about getting out of my comfort zone... Every week so far I have improved in my running and I feel really good about that right now.

Do You Have Any Future Goals (Fitness, Health, Career, Personal etc.?)

Future goals... Be the best wife and Mommy that I can be... Grow our family with one more little one in about 2 years... Own and operate a private therapy practice... Participate in the Open, maybe next year... Be able to do a pull-up without any modifications... Run a mile in less than 10-minutes... Ultimately, be healthier and more fit so I can pass on that kind of lifestyle on to our son.
