Jamie began her CrossFit journey at Cityside 3 1/2 years ago. In addition to achieving many goals both personal and fitness related, she has become a certified CrossFit trainer and qualified as an Individual for the 2017 South Regionals. Jamies work ethic and contagious positive attitude has been the greatest addition to our gym and we are thankful to be able to put her in the spotlight this week. Learn more about her below:

I like CrossFit! and also enjoy running, hiking, yoga, and have recently attempted to take up mountain biking. I love doing anything outside and I have a goal to learn how to sew.
How Long Have you Been a Member at Cityside?
3 1/2 years, my whole CrossFit lifetime. Leila and Hannah B. taught me foundations, I remember one night they told me, "so, if you like CrossFit and you want to get better, we suggest you try to come to classes at least 3x/wk" I said, OK, and came 6x/wk.
What Made You Start CrossFit?
I met my friend and Cityside member, Kathleen Segovia, working at lululemon. We ran together a lot and she thought since I liked to work out I might like CrossFit. I joined her and Lauren Hoes for an 0530 class one morning and never looked back. I remember it had deadlifting, wall balls, kb swings, and HS push ups. I had no idea why anyone would want to do a HS push up, it looked painful, but I wondered if I could. That day I scaled with my knees on a box, but I worked on them until I could do them.
What Do You Enjoy Most About Cityside?
The ability to challenge yourself everyday, while being surrounding by an awesome community of friends. I love the opportunity we have here to keep working, keep trying, and knowing there are people you can go to for help. I have always loved looking at a workout, thinking "man, that suckkkssss" and then getting after it. The ability to mentally put your head down and do work, to push yourself further than you think you can, and to have friends supporting you and cheering for you along the way is one of the most rewarding feelings, and can carry over to your everyday life. What do you do when it starts to get hard? What do you do when you’re feeling good? You keep going. Cityside has shown me how to work hard, build confidence, and shaped my PMA (positive mental attitude) and brought some incredible friends into my life.
What Goals/Accomplishments Have You Achieved Since Joining?
I had placed/won a couple of local competitions, but after winning my first scaled competition Ryan told me it was time to join the big boys in RX. I've been able to partner up with different friends/gym members to compete (and place) in partner and team competitions as well. Last year I was a South Central Regionals Athlete, and I plan to be back this year. The open is here, lets get it!
A huge accomplishment for me has also been nutrition. I started CrossFit at 165 lbs and 30% body fat. I have been on a loooong rollercoaster, but this week (3 1/2 years later) I weighed in at 150 lbs and 8.8%. Yes, I have changed a lot of numbers here, but more importantly to me I have changed my self image, my internal voice, and the shame stories I always repeated in my head. My achievement was deciding to really 100% commit to something and seeing it through the right way. For the first time in a long time, maybe ever, I am proud of the work I have done in the gym and in the kitchen; instead of looking in the mirror and finding a new flaw or making a new goal, I am proud of myself for being healthy and strong and for me, that is the biggest victory. I can tell you from first hand experience, it doesn't matter how much time you're spending in the gym if you don't have your nutrition down.

Immediately, to make Regionals 2018.
After that, anything is possible! Continue to CrossFit and maintain a healthy lifestyle, anyone want to go to yoga, spin, or run, hit me up! I enjoy sharing my journey with others both directly related to CrossFit and also with nutrition. I want to learn how to sew and maybe take a pottery class!
